A very big Smokey Joe’s welcome to awesome trumpet maestro, Ray Butcher, our very special guest of the month. Ray has an inspirational international profile, well-known for his experience and performances with the likes of Jean Toussaint, Liam Noble, Soweto Kinch, BB King, Afro Cuban All Stars, King Pleasure and the Biscuit Boys, Tim Amann, Dr John, Mica Paris, Robbie Williams, Beverly Knight, Robert Plant, and many more. He was the trumpet soloist on the Grammy-nominated album 'Burning Lights' by US Grammy winner Chris Tomlin, he has performed on a range of television broadcasts with the BBC and others, but clearly, his ‘pièce de résistance’ will always be the 3.5 million YouTube views he had when he appeared on the outtakes of an iPhone advert with the one-and-only Cookie Monster! You can expect similar levels of Cookie Monster energy, inspiration, creativity and zest, when Ray meets the Smokey Joe’s house band, with the flying socks and passion of Alex Steele on piano; the mighty groove merchant, Mike Cypher on drums, always ready to snatch the unexpected beats and turn them into unrivalled rhythmical joy; and the beautifully melodic, lyrical, eloquent and effervescent, ‘Moyk’ Green on double bass.
